Bargara shore dive in winter

For a shore free dive/snorkel at Hoffman's Rocks in May, would a 2mm vest be
sufficient?. I also have a half mil hot top/rashie which can be worn
underneath.
As well as Bargara we'll be visiting Lady Musgrave $ Elliot Islands
around the same time.
Last trips objective was to photo Moorish Idols in the Cook Islands, next
year, to see a Manta on the Coral Coast.

Where do you normally dive, how much do you feel the cold.

I use a 5mm long-johns pretty much all year round, but have been diving with
others that use only lycra suites at that time of the year, have also seen
guys wearing full dry suites. Sorry to be so evasive, but really does
depend on how much you feel the cold, and what temps you are used to.

If you're diving the Bundy region you should also dive the Artificial Reef
http://www.badarai.asn.au just off the coast.

The Cook Islands, water temp around 24 - 26degs. I do notice the cold a bit
(around the chest) more than a few years back. I think 18degs would
be pretty nippy.

I think a 3mm will probably do the biz - the reason I
posted this question was to save lugging more neophrene in the flying
bag than was needed. I take your point - everyone is different.
Not sure what the water temp is going to be around Bargara in early May.

Around that time of year your will be looking at approximately 20-23degs.

Brian - I would suggest thicker and full length - after all its better to
feel warm rather than freezing ! Its a good little spot too , I know it
well as my parents live up in Moore Park Beach ( 20 min from Bargaga ) I am
in Sydney BTW

Also a side note - if your going to lady Musgrave - you are better to leave
from the town of 1770 as its only a 2 hour boat ride.

thanks for your reply Boc. Probably end up getting a new wettie in
either Bargara or Bundaberg - it's a good excuse to upgrade without
getting into strife with she_who_ must_ be_ obeyed (at all costs). Will test
the water nearest to the Bargara dive shop and take it from there !

Not going to Musgrave now, I don't think one day is enough, so we're
instead staying on Lady Elliot island for a few days. If the diving is
good I'd be happy sleeping on the beach and living on wine biscuits, but
she_who_insists_on_ floorboards_and_running_water has insisted on a beach unit.

Is it the olive seasnake's breeding season (Bargara) in May?
