Essentially a lifejacket to make sure you stay on the surface. They are important if you're uncomfortable in the water. I've never used one and have been snorkelling since I was a kid (I grew up on an island). If you're using a wetsuit, then a snorkel vest is not required, as the wetsuit provides buoyancy of its own. If you're comfortable in the water you won't need one, and will in fact find them a hindrance as you try to duck-dive. Hope this helps Ness |
