Default digital camera for underwater?

Hello,

Are there any digital cameras for underwater photography ? how many
meters or feet they can reach? they have connection for external
stronger flash ? what is the lense aperture?

Please tell me what are good models of digital cameras for underwater
photography with and without underwater casing I mean no need of extra
housing for underwater are there any? how deep they can go ?

what about with housing digital cameras? which ones are considered
best?

thanks,

Mario

How much do you want to spend is the question?

It's not so much the camera as the housing, and the external lenses
for the housing.

The Oly C4040 and C5050 are pretty well supported. But you can find
Tetra and Ikelite cases for a lot of cameras. Add on flash units and
such, and you could be looking at $1500, maybe, not including the
price of whatever camera.

It's expensive.

I just got the same housing and we're headed to Cozumel in February. Any
advice on using the camera underwater? What settings do you use? Anything
special with the housing? Did you pop for an external strobe?

TIA,

Dave

The newer Oly Stylus 300 and 400 models are also well supported - I just
got one myself along with the Oly housing.

I had a Canon Powershot G2 digital camera which I wanted to use for
underwater. in November, I got an Ikelite housing, DS100/sensor strobe
package, and fast-charger for the strobe for about $1400 with shipping.
I've put about 50 dives on it so far and have been very happy with it. It
was expensive, but now that I have it, the cost-per-use will eventually
make it seem not so outrageous. (:

One or two places seem to be doing the housing for the Olympus Mju cameras
(300 and 400) for about £60 - so you could probably get a 3mp camera and
housing for £300 or so.
