Don't they teach people about saturation diving any more? I learnt some stuff about saturation diving from just chatting to the instructor. Basicly once you are 100% saturated for a depth, then it doesn't matter how long you are down for, 2 day, 20 days, 200 days... it'll take exactly the same amount of time to decompress for all those times... :P rhys |

Well, I got my C-Card all the way back in 1978, so the details are a tad fuzzy, but when we did the section on DCS, the instructor (Marty Owen, for those Melbournites who may also be ancient) explained that once you had absorbed as much Nitrogen as possible, it was simpler to stay at pressure. He had worked on the rigs down in Bass Strait (but I can't recall if he had done saturation diving), maybe that was why he mentioned it, as he had seen it (or done it). And note that I said "about saturation diving" not "to do saturation diving". Of course, this was back in the days when all we had were USN DC tables, none of these fancy DC guages that take the thrill out of a deep or cold dive :-> Cheers, Gary B-) -- __________________________________________________ ____________________________ Armful of chairs: Something some people would not know whether you were up them with or not - Barry Humphries |

| Hi all I don't know whether you're talking about another diver, or myself, who hangs around this site a bit. If you're referring to another person then I apologise for getting involved, but I am Mark R Schmidt from Sydney and not connected with the person Gary R Schmidt. Small world this internet isn't it?
