I'd fly. It's a a lot of sand and not a lot else really. There is some diving out of Carnavon, but it's apparently not as good as further north from what some locals said. Monkey Mia might be worth a look. It's got huge potential but last time I was there, there were no dive shops, though I think that's changed relatively recently. But if there's no diving going on there, I'd give it a miss. Very overhyped and very average TBH. I will probably fly to Exmouth and book my diving prior to arrival. I will definitely do a livaboard somewhere on the Barrier reef. I was interested in reading your reports on the Maldives as my last trip there was over 12 years ago. I also enjoyed my week on Kuredu. If you ever see Ian Smith give him my regards as I spent a week diving with him at Sodwana about five years ago.
