| Does anyone have any experience of diving the lakes around the Germany / Austria border? I'll be there - without a buddy - in the summer, near Salzburg, and I can see there are several large lakes (Ammersee, Starnberger See, Chiemsee, Attersee, Traunsee etc.), which might be nice and clear. I know there are dive ops around there, but some recommendations (esp. for a non-German speaker) or any local info would be great. Cheers, Bernard |

My first choice here would be the Attersee, then the Starnberger See. Letter has access hindered by parking restrictions. Chiemsee, and the others are not famed for good viz. Other worth a dive: Walchensee ( really deep), Fernsteinsee. Latter are altitude dives. Matthias |

| If you are locatet near Salzburg, then you should go to the Attersee. There are about 20 places to dive in this lake. Another good one is the Wolfgangsee or the Traunsse. Take a look to http://www.taucher.net/tauchfuehrer_...ebersicht.html Even if it is written in german, there are a lot of fantastic descriptions of the lakes and their places to dive as pictures. The way from Salzburg to the german lakes (Starnberger, Ammersee) is about 2 hours with the car. And the only lake that is worth to go there ist the Starnberger See - with bad visibility in the summer. Chiemsee is absolutely not to recommend. Johann |
