Everyone has their own tolerence for cold, so we can't answer for you.
It might be worth a shot. If the jumpsuit doesn't do it for you, you
could always wear the shorty underneath.

For June-Sept, I use nothing or a lycra in SFL and Bahamas. 1 mm would
be fine for most people.

Nothing huh? I bet you're fun to dive with <BEG>

Seriously though...you don't think that diving 3 or 4 times through the day
(say a 10 hr period) would make me chill? I keep reading about how multi-day
repetitive divers wear 3mm even in the tropics because they get cold.

I can't see it myself, but I have no experience with this from which to draw
from. I just don't want to get cold 3 days into the trip. But I also don't
want to wear a 3mm if I can avoid it.

Thanks
Irene

You are right, as far as I'm concerned Irene. I always wear my full 3 mm on
my tropic trips. At 82F I'm usually comfortable but can still become
chilled. At 84F, I'm always comfortable. On the rare occasion that the
water temp is 86F, I still don't get too warm while diving. That said, at
84-86F, I don't ever need to wear a bandana or a hood.

Why is it you are so resistant to wearing the 3mm? You just want to be more
free?

Yeah, pretty much. I like that non-restrictive feeling better. It's one of
the reasons I'm not fond of dry suit diving. I do it, but I dislike not
being to feel everything around me. I tried on a 3/2 in the shop and it felt
so confining and limited my movements. I think it's just a matter of getting
used to wearing one. But I also felt it was so warm that I was afraid I
might get overheated if I had to do anything slightly strenuous.

You probably will be warm in it when not in the water. In between dives, I
take down the top of mine and then tie the sleeves around my waist. As for
getting over heated in the water, that's never happened to me. If you start
feeling a bit too warm, pull on your neck seal and let some more water flood
in.

While you may not like the 3mm, any mm full suit is still better. It can
protect you from stinging floaties and accidental brushes with stinging
corals. Certainly, one would like their bouyancy to keep them from touching
anything growing, but accidents can happen. I also find the neoprene helps
to pad me from any rubbing that may be caused by my BCD after days of
diving.

Won't be a problem in the water. On the boat, unzip it or take it
off.

Or bring a dive skin and a shorty. The dive skin doesn't add much
warmth, but it does add some protection against thingies and your BCD.
This is pretty compact, so you could still take a full suit in case you
decide you want it. I find a lycra hood helps on trips where I do a lot
of diving. They are not restricting, but help keep you warm. They can
look a little strange to some folks.

Yeah...I thought about taking the 3mm and a skin or a 1mm and doing just
that. But between my hubby and I we will be taking a lot of gear. This will
be the first time we go on a trip that is exclusively diving and part of it
is on a liveaboard--also a first. So instead of renting gear we are hauling
our own. We are both military and have perfected the art of packing light.
But I'm sitting here looking at our regs, BCs, primary lights, back up
lights, digital camera w/ housing, strobe, first aid kit, masks, fins....

you see where I find myself? Now I have to add wetsuits, booties. Oh yeah,
and a few items of clothing and swimsuits.

I know it's funny, but I can see us going overweight at the airline counter
and my hubby blaming it on that dive skin I just had to bring

I know I'm obsessing. You should see me when I pack my backpack for a
multiday backpacking trip in the mountains.Ounces count.

Oh, and I didn't count the damn hard and soft cases for the Light Cannons
and digital camera.
