Default Turks and Caicos or Belize

We're looking to diving for a week in Dec or Jan. .....any thoughts and comparisons of these two destinations would be much appreciated.

I have not been to Belize.

I am returning to Turks & Caicos on Saturday for another week of liveaboard
diving. Mostly wall dives, lots of sharks, rays, lotsa big fish, big
sponges, awesome diving.

There are a few dive operations there, plenty of resorts, excellent beach.

If diving is the consideration, the only reason that someone might return to T&C is that they have not yet been to Belice.

In that the comparison offered was a live aboard, I would also have to say the best way to dive Belice would be on a ship- I like the Nekton.

Tying yourself to one resort? Maybe I would tilt towards T&C and charter with various dive ops nearby the resort for some variety. Resorts and their on prem dive ops at Belice (I assume we're talking the Belice Cays and not Belice City) are limited by deffinition, but the little critters make each dive different.

The diving is radicaly different, and if your interest is larger critters, better go to the out islands of the Bahamas than T&C. Me? I've seen a shark... Next? Belice is where you go hunt for little critters, much like Roatan. Belice offers the Blue Hole which is one very slow and expensive way to spend (waste?) a diving day- just to be able to say that you've been there, done that. Otherwise, Belice is my choice, hands down.

You are also a lot further away from a Club Dread when you're in Belice.... and besides- you get to have a ham sammich and a beer at "Jet's Bar" in the departure lounge.

I have also been to both and disagree with Doc. My favorite of the two is
T&C, hands down. Of course, it depends on where in the T&C you plan to go
and with whom you dive. Grand Turk is, IMHO, not great diving while South
Caicos is probably the best diving in the Caribbean. Of course, there may
not be a diving operation on South Caicos at any given point in time so it
may not be an option.

As to Provo, it is very good diving if you go with an operator like Fifi
Kuntz's Caicos Adventures that will take you to West Caicos and French Caye
as opposed to puttering about Grace Bay.

The other consideration is weather. The T&C can be a bit dicey in December
and January since Nor'easters can blow in and make things a bit cold and
choppy. However, the T&C is south of the Bahamas and the dicey weather is
not all that common BUT it is a possibility. I have never been to Belize
during that time period but have experienced moderately ugly weather in
Cozumel, just a bit to the north.
