Default Vaccinations for Belize?

What's the scoop on vaccinations for divers visiting Belize? My doc
recommended renewing my DPT vaccination (been 10 years), and vaccinations
for Hep A. Got both today -- can't hurt.

It looks like the CDC recommends a Typhoid vaccination, and precautions for
Malaria seem to be debatable. You can take precautions before you leave, or
just use nets and good products with Deet in leu of medications. I was
looking at some clothing that's supposed to contain bug repellents. Looks
interesting and stylish.

Any thoughts?

Sheldon

DPT?? Diptheria? OK . .since you already got it. Hep B couldn't have hurt
either. Too bad you didn't go for the TwinRix.

Typhoid? Are you going inland? Then yes, can't hurt. Had a friend
contract typhoid. Think she was near Hopkins, but I could be wrong about
that. In any event, it wasn't on Ambergris Caye.

Did you get or need booster for Tetanus?

Make sure to take lots and lots of DEET. Use it! :^)

Stylish? LOL. No one goes stylish in Belize.

Since I'm going with my girlfriend I figured Hep B was a real longshot. So
far it looks like I'll be on Ambergris. Most tetinus shots are DPT. I
"think" that's what I got (DPT).

I"ll ask about it.

That's the T in DPT, and I was due.

As opposed to the medications you can take before you leave?

Well, "my" definition of stylish. Lots of T shirts and convertible pants
and shorts.

Since I shave my head, I better look for a stylish banana. Thanks for

You won't need it for Ambergris, really.

If you are going to Ambergris, you shouldn't need to worry about
anti-malarials.

Your definition of stylish is the right definition. :^)

Yeah, when I had my Hep B, my PCP recommendrd A since I'll probably be
exposed to A. I also had to have tetenus, but it wasn't DPT.

Since I'm "of that age", he tested me for veracella, MMR and rubeola
antigens. And in early August, I had to be tested for TB, which I
have to be tested for every year, now.

And in what is the silliest, I had to take CPR for Healthcare
Providers. I teach CPR, but not the specific course. If I was an AED
instructor, I wouldn't have to.

If you're diving only, I wouldn't worry about typhoid or malaria.
Those are mostly in shore issues. Places like Ambergris really don't
have any problems, although I would take standard anti misquito
precautions, if for no other reason than to avoid scratching myself
raw.

Oh yeah, some of the anit malarials can cause psychotic sides in some
people.

Side Effects translation Guide: "Vivid Dreams" actually means
Nightmares.

FWIW, I've also found that they can cause poor balance on the first
~24 hours after taking them for the first 2-3 doses. Don't go hiking
near cliff edges.
