| Hi I live and dive weekly in Bermuda. I have dived all around the islands and, to be completely honest, i am not particularly impressed. I have dived many other locations around the world such as Europe, the Caribbean and the Red Sea all of which have been far better than Bermuda. Bermuda's fish life on the reefs is almost non existent, probably due to years of over fishing. Since the introduction of Marine Parks the fish are returning, with juvenile fish being being evident at most sites. That said, don't expect to see fish in large numbers. You will probably see parrot fish, angel fish, banners, squirrel's, snapper, barracuda and jacks but only in small numbers. Sharks are almost non existent and i have yet to see rays / morays. The reefs over here are actually fossilised worms and are covered in what are regarded as some of the worlds best brain coral. There are soft corals too, but not in abundance. The reefs generally look rather drab and dull. Of course this is only MY OPINION. Bermuda is marketed as a "wreck divers paradise" - for the life in me i have no idea why. Yes, there are a large number of wrecks here but most of them are completely collapsed or knackered. There are probably only a handful of wreck dives worth doing : Constellation & Montana ( do 2 wrecks in 1 dive! ), Lartington, The Hermes and The Marie celeste. One of the prettiest dives has to be a scenic dive around the Southwest Breaker - an absolute must do. Dive shops: Blue Water Divers at Somerset Bridge in the west of the island dive along the south and south west shore ( I can recommend them ) Fantasea Divers and Dive Bermuda both operate from the capital Hamilton, and there is a dive operator that work from Grotto Bay hotel, but i can never remember their name. I hope this helps Submersible Sid |

Small Hope Bay Lodge is a all-inclusive resort near Andros Town. The diving there is about a mile off-shore, and is excellent. There used to be another resort at San Andros (north end), but I haven't heard of it in over 10 years. -- Remove preceding and trailing X from username for replies (Sorry, but I'm SICK of spam...) |
