Default Diving off of Bermuda ?

I was surprised to see a write-up about diving off of Bermuda in the
Sept issue of Sport Diver magazine. The article talked about all of
the wrecks there and after reading it, I'm pondering going there. I
never thought the diving was that good there but I can't honestly say
that I know anyone who has been there. Can anyone here shed some
light on the diving off Bermuda ? I'm especially interested in a
charter liveaboard there called M.Y Bermuda IV.
Thanks.

I have been to Bermuda several times, but not to dive. It is an
expensive place to stay and the liveaboard may be one of the cheapest
ways to stay there. Our last visit was via cruise ship and that was
cheaper than even the least expensive USAir fare and staying in the
least expensive guest house.

Bermuda isn't a tropical location - it is in the middle of the
Atlantic, and will be much colder than the tropics. They do have
coral - just fewer types than you find in a tropical location like the
Caribbean for instance. Except for my first visit when I was pg, I've
mostly been there in November, and if I had been diving I would
definitely have needed a wet suit.

They have LOTS of wrecks. - this is a partial map from the Underwater

Bermuda is a surprisingly short flight out of New York, yet it remains
a suprisingly expensive one. As such, I've also debated going there
for a long weekend or whatever, but the economics simply don't make it
favorable.

I'd definitely consult a water temperature -vs- month chart and plan
on having a good wetsuit. My recollections are that it can hit 80F
in the peak of summer, but visibility suffers. The good viz is
during the winter, when it can IIRC be at the bottom of what coral can
survive, which is the mid/lower 60's. Also expect air temperatures to
similarly get chilly.

I recall that a diving promotion from a few years ago was to dive on a
certain number of Bermuda wrecks and get a specialty C-Card or
something like that.

Overall, it sounds like a nice place to go do some diving even with
the seasonal temperature excursions, but it effectively remains a
destination for high priced businessmen, which makes it a relatively
poor vacation value.
