You are using the wrong type of drillbit then.

Yeah, buried away somewhere in that drawer we all have in the
back room where we all pile the stuff we have too much of. As I
recall they weren't very good. I had a 28mm lens and what pictures
I got didn't really do justice to the subject.

Are you using a hammer/drill or just a regular drill? A little water helps
too.

A DX-450 might be a tad more than you need with brick. Use a green charge if
you do.

As Jammer once said, "it's a poor craftsman who blames his tools"... Or
something like that... <grin>

You mean I'm not supposed to use the cherry red drillbits?

Easy, don't use plywood. I installed my shutters today. I have no doubt
that this is why the hurricane is going elsewhere. Charlie turned because I
bought my generator. I have that effect on storms. At any rate, I'm quite
happy with my aluminum shutters. They're reasonably priced, easy to install
and take down and easy to store. I think I'd like the folding shutters
also, but they're considerably more expensive and there was nobody available
to install them at present.

This brings me to the point of this message. Pay somebody to put shutters
up for you. They have to come up with the equipment, including drills
instead of you.

Well, I used the masonry bit that came with the drill... I suspect that they
are for cinder blocks and mortar, but not for actual fired clay bricks...
