You've apparently been largely oblivious to the military's recruiting campaign for
the last 20 years or so. Thousands of people have signed up in peacetime based on
what they were promised and then gotten what they hoped. Others have signed up and
gotten what they weren't expecting.

ya gotta be an idiot to not think that war (or a reasonable facsimile)
is not a possibility.

The constitution promises freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM
religion. Think about it, It ain't that hard to figure out. If your
religion is none, then deal with it.

I doubt very much the military promised the recruits they would not have to fight if
war breaks out.

There are always idiots looking for work and having a hard time finding it. The
recruitment advertising is mostly devoted to what the army can do for enlistees, and
none of it is about the chance to get blown up and come home without your legs, so is
it any surprise that a fair number of those idiots enlist? I don't think many of them
actually think war isn't a possibility, but I'm guessing a lot think it's a low
enough probability that they're not taking a big risk for the college education or
training they want.

Every recruiting ad I see has someone carrying a rifle.

Of course, I pay no mind to the civilized services.

Even the Navy?

Bigger and better weapons... We have guns -- 16 inchers...

Well, we used to... Not sure what the max size is these days now that the
Jersey is no longer in service...

I guess you're talking about the puddle pirates and the zoomies...

But the risk is there and obvious even if deemed small.

Did your bosses warn you about all of the pitfalls of your job before you
"signed on the dotted line"?

That probably just makes the idiots think they'll be able to go hunting when they're
not on duty.
