| Dec. 21. 2003 - Jan. 1. 2004 We spent two absolutely magical weeks in Salt Cay. It's a laid back place but we really loved it. We stayed at Tradewinds and rooms are spacious and nicely furnished with private porch! We dove with Salt Cay Divers and they were absolutely great. Most of the diving we did with Craig and really had a lot of fun with him. But we also dove with Michael and Debbie and Ollie (the owners of Salt Cay Divers) and everything was perfect. If you want to do deep dives, Michael is your guy! Debbie also ownes the Splash Boutique and has really nice staff there (especially her jewellery is great). Diving in general is nice. Healthy marine life, beautyful and colorful corals and sponges. Great walls (not spectacular, but great). We saw a lot of turtles and nurse sharks, moray eels ......! When it comes to Debbie, we have to admit, that she really keeps things going on the Island. You need medicine, cigaretts, food, advice or whatever - debbie is the right person and we really like her! Most of the time had dinner at the Island Thyme Bistro which works like a central meeting and information point on the Island. Porter and Haydee (porprietors) are doing a great job. Food was excellent and the drinks were literally "great". Don't forget to try Porter's "Wolf and Mama"!!! They also sell some shirts and jewellery and if you need some ingredients for your breakfast, ask Porter and he always helps you out. The New Years Party at Island Thyme Bistro was a real show. We had Greek food and some really nice Reaggie Music. Casmine is a hell of a "hot" dancer. We had Dinner at Christmas Eve at the Windmills Plantation which is a truly unique place. It is a beautyful, intimate luxury "small hotel" and Sharon and Jim are doing an excellent job. Food is fantastic and they do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. And the place is situated at most beautyful beach of the Island. Mount Pleasant Guesthouse serves the best Conch Fritters. We went twice for Dinner and were always satisfied with Maria's cooking. You shold also try Pat's Place which is famous for island specialities and we really enjoyed having dinner there. We stopped a couple of times (after our last dive of the day) at the green Flash and had a cool beer. Nathan is right man, if you want to rent a golf car and he accepts payment by credit card as well. Really nice guy. Netty has the best bread on the Island and also rents a guest house (which I din't get to see). Weather was generally okay (even though we had some fronts)and sometimes it was kind of chilly, but this may be normal in December. We are going back to this Islands which is not so easy to describe! |
