| I am currently in Panama City, Panama and will be traveling to the area of Barranquilla, Columbia within the next week. I was wondering if there is any decent diving in that area. I was told of a place called "Santa Marta" but canīt seem to find any information. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Sy |

Try a search with the correct spelling. I read a short time ago about a rash of kidnappings and murders in the countryside near Barranquilla. Santa Marta is a tad north and east of Barranquilla. Here is a link to a map of the area. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/colombia.html That area of Colombia was known for cannabis cultivation and as a smuggling route for other drugs. I think the travel advisories are still in affect for the entire country. You may wish to check with the State Department before traveling there. The FARC and other rebel groups have gotten more aggressive and caution is advised for that reason. Crime is another problem that is widespread in Colombia. Rocky |

Actually, the only time I was ever pulled over for "vehicular assault" was in South Central L.A. Fortunately I convinced the cops it was justified and they let me go. |

Pretty much a battle cry for rec.scuba Sounds good to me - why is there an issue? Should I do a google search to come up to speed? |
