Default Costa Rica - Osa Peninsula Travel?

(Also posted to soc.culture.costa-rica)

I'll be on an all-too-short visit to Costa Rica in March. Arrival is
afternoon on Wednesday and departure is early the following Tuesday.
Given the duration of the visit, do I have enough time to visit the
Osa Peninsula? As best I can tell, it will take the majority of a day
to get there and back, which will consume my Thursday and Monday.
It's definitely the destination of choice, but to spend half the trip
traveling is not ideal.

What's the scoop on travel between these two areas? Is there any
conceivable way to get to the Osa Peninsula region in an afternoon?

If no, any suggestions for areas which are more easily accessible from
San Jose (realizing that accessibility is typically inversely
proportional to singularity)? We're a young couple looking for the
usual ecotourism (good diving would be a plus, but not essential) and
are budgeting about US$80/day for accommodations & meals.

I've visited Drake Bay Wilderness Resort on several occasions, and I'll
tell you the 'resort' term is a bit of a stretch, but adequate for the
area's remoteness. Details and contact info available below. The
onsite DM Jose married a friend of mine and is no longer there. Small
boats and dive rental gear is available and generally in good condition,
and packing light is recomended because you'll carry everything you
bring - in and out (and it'll get wet). You have two options for
getting there (I've tried both) - long time owners Herbert & Marleny can
arrange charter air travel from/to San Jose, try your best to be
flexible on dates. If a very small plane isn't your cup of tea, I've
learned it takes about two weeks to pack in on horseback (and two weeks
out), so schedule your time and stamina accordingly. I've never
regretted my visits, but I don't need electricity 24/7 either. Buena
suerte mi amigo.
