| Dobar dan! I'm a Canadian that has seen a little bit of the beautiful coast there scuba diving. I was lucky enought spend a week in Komisa on Vis with three other Canadians. We were hosted by Lorenz Marovic and his wife at Manta Diving. The hotel was only a minute's walk away and the people in the town were extremely friendly. Lorenz also provided all the meals for us at the dive shop, which inlcuded fresh baked bread, fresh fish from the pier, and light white wines from the numerous family vinyards on Vis. All equipment was available if necessary and in good condition. There was also a hot-water shower next to the equipment room for filling your wetsuit and after the dive. Lorenz is a commercial diver and has a one-man decompression tank in his boat available for emergencies (in case anyone's wondering). He also has a roomy dive boat and provides snacks for longer diving days. He and his wife are both diving instructors and can provide advanced SSI courses that are recognized by PADI. The weather was gorgeous and the visibility was a minimum of about 25 metres. The few warm-up dives were excellent, with clean shorelines and relatively clear bottoms with lots of low rock, some sand, and a bit of seaweed. There is also a lot of history from WWII there. Case in point: right off the short from the Manta shop is an ammo ship that was blown up sometime during the war. The ship's ribs are still visible, and there are encrusted piles of old ammo and grenades for those with LOTS of life insurance. A few minutes away was also an outcropping with a lighthouse. Good diving there: there is an old ship that sunk in 1934 to dive on. I have an excellent shot of a dive buddy with the encrusted ship's wheel with the bright surface in the background. It's a deep dive though, about 100' to the keel, if I remember correctly. For those not into the deep water, there is an abundance of sealife, including a semi-tame MONSTER eel that can be fed by hand (watch them there fingers!). You can see him waiting as you approach. The night diving was good with a lot of flouresence in the water right off the shore from the dive shop. To sum up, the overall trip was outstanding, the diving was excellent, the hosts were great, the food was fantastic, and the girls were pretty. We took the high-speed catamaran between the mainland city of Split and Vis, so the trip wasn't long. I would go back in a second, and the people that went with me would agree. Pics and autographs are available upon request. Goran, I can also provide links to Manta diving as one possible destination. Cheers and good luck! | Hello! I want to build a comprehensive Web site that would display everything that Croatian Adriatic has to offer to divers around the world. For now I am only trying to see how big is the interest for diving in Croatia. I'm asking you to help me by sending me some basic information. Please send me answers to these or at least some of these questions: How well are divers in your country familiar with Croatia, its Adriatic coast and diving sites over here? Do you know anyone who has been in Croatia? What are his/her impressions? Would you be interested to come for a few days if someone here would organize accommodation and different interesting diving programs at fair prices? Thanks! Goran Jakupanec Bakar, Croatia |
