| I have been in Croatia a bunch of times and I think that Rovinj is the best location for diving (if you like wrecks that is). The viz is great but not the best around Rovinj but the wrecks are. I did about ten dives on the Baron gautsch (viz around 30 meters) and have not seen all of it yet (you can go way down into the wreck with an excellent engine room). The Istra (Hans Schmitt) is also a big wreck and fun to dive on (also good viz). In the Rovinj region there is also the Guiseppe Dezza and some other wrecks but they are on a muddy bottom. Bad viz on those wrecks...around 5 meters. If you are not interested in wrecks but just great viz and fish then you have to go to the island of Cres and Mali Losinj. Rule of thumb: more south = more viz. I did the diving with these guys: http://www.diver.hr/. Check out the photo archive of our diving team: http://qweq.xs4all.nl/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=10445 This is the "diving in foreign countries" section of our archive and you will find a few croatian photo albums here. No hot-stuff...just some amateur underwater pictures. Rovinj is 'by the way' also a nice city just to hang out, walk around, have a beer and a bite to eat. Next summer I'm going to the Zadar region to check out the diving. | Ron, Many thanks for the answer. Being a UK diver anything about 3/5m viz is good. Have dived many a wreck in england where you know you have arrived because you hit it before you see it!
