Bending over to pick up a donut? Or would that be croisants for the French
cops?

Isn't that what they said at the start of the French Revolution?

So, Chirac should just say, "Let them eat falafel"?

During the 1,700 car fires?

Doesn't change the point, does it?

I notice that , oh, once or twice you've commented on American subjects.

Did you live here?

Here, it is not acceptable to use deadly force to protect property.
The case of assault against persons is different.

So it was the "well regulated militia" part that really made a
difference?

And AFAIK the death toll reached 50. So they were short, contained, but
deadly.

France does not have a good experience with tasking the army with
maintaining law and order. Plus you'd have to be willing to make quite
a lot of casualties. The situation is probably not that dramatic yet.

Cheers,

Cite?

In many cases, the rioters were the armed citizens.

Only one dead after 11 days of rioting? Is that what happens to a
dis-armed populace?

Yes. Riots by an armed populace are much more deadly.

OTOH being doused with petrol and set ablaze, or being clubbed with
baseball bats, is not my idea of fun either.
