| I am going to Cyprus (Paphos) in May and want to try some diving there. Can anybody recommend any dive clubs there. Have looked on the net an Cy dive look very good. I am only a beginner, passed my padi open water last October. so would need to do some nice easy dives. Also I am looking at getting my own fins, mask and snorkel, can anyone recommend any good online stores or would I possibly get a better deal when I am in Cyprus. Thanks for any help Gary |

CyDive are probably the largest dive operation in Paphos and are situated right smack bang on the beach front. Personally I dived with Seahorse Diving, a small but friendly little outfit that you'll find tucked away on the beach around the side of the bay near the larger hotels. Run by a very nice chap called 'Georgio', they run regular trips to the Zenobia as well as other popular dive sites in Cyprus but come across as a little more 'tinpot' than CyDive. For someone with less experience, however, you may want to speak to CyDive as I'd say they are probably better equipped to look after you... |

What can I say? It was expensive and ther wasn't a lot to see, the only place worthwhile diving is the Zenobia, but I wonder if they'll take you there seen that you've got your OW. -- Michael Wolf ------------ Cthulhu for President! Just come back from 10 dives on the Zen. The top of the Zenobia is about 17m, so it is "possible" to dive it with an OW ticket, although, of course, an AOW would be preferred. 1UKP = 0.80CYP (aprox) Don't know about any particular dive clubs, but there are definitely a few out there.. at the weekend we dived with Akritiri BSAC and some other BSAC from about the same area.. most were Squaddies, though not all. If you're renting a car whilst out there, you could drive to Larnanca and try one of the local shops for the Zen (Dive In http://www.dive-in.com.cy/ looked good), though if you go with one in Pathos they'll probably drive you down that way anyway, or sail you down (depending on where it is). Having looked at the Cydive site ( http://www.cydive.com ) it looks like they have plenty to offer for OW divers, so should be worth a shot.. why not try emailing them and getting a conversation going.. asking whatever pertinent questions you can think of. As for buying kit, personal choice.. UK prices might be better.. espeically right now with the post dive-show thing going on.. with Masks I would definitely try some in your local dive shop before buying.. as you never know what will fit or not. rich |

| If you're going to travel to larnaca to dive the Zenobia, Ian McMurray of Octopus Divers is the guy to talk to. he has a very intimate knowledge of the wreck :D. He watched it go down and has explored every inch of it, inside and out. I regularly go to Larnaca and always dive with him - the dive school is a professional outfit and the guys working there are brilliant. | just come back from Larnaca. Dived the zenobia with Dive-In. Centre and apartment hotel overlooks the bay, can see the wreck site from the room. Amble down in the morning out of hotel door into kit room - kit up, put tanks etc on pick up and walk 100 yards to marina, onto 7m rib or Aquacat and 5 minutes out to wreck. Back in time for breakfast next door to centre by 10.00 am and the rest of the day is then free for family or to do second dive.. Great bunch of guys, very professional.:) -- wavelength ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via DeeperBlue.net - Your Online Resource for the UnderWater World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ wavelength's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=2853 View this thread on DeeperBlue.net: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=48973 |
