No Pops, I don't mean the 1940's! Shit, I'm NOT that
old......man!!!! The Green Beret was originally designated in 1953
by the Special Forces wasn't it? Don't know about my friends being
marines though. They came from 1st SFG (A) in Okinawa, they will be
pissed at me if I ask if they were marines!

It's complicated, but you're pretty much correct.

Originally, Special Forces = Green Berets, then a lot of other units (some of
which pre-existed the Berets) got lumped in.

I know you're not that old , I was talking generally about the Pacific
theater in WW2, it was the only general action by US forces I could think of.
