| When H-DSA started, I introduced an idea to search for a U-boat off Prince Edward Island, Canada that may in fact be the U-376 which was listed as lost off France. It could have actually survived the naval engagement that was reported to have sunk it, only to have continued its mission to venture to PEI and extract escaped Nazi prisoners of war. While researching that U-boat which I had first heard about in the Keatts and Farr book on U-boats, I came across the U-215 on wreckhunter.net. Unlike what may or may not be the mythical PEI U-boat the coordinates of the U-215 were recorded as 41.48N / 66.38W and it was thought to be in 200 to 300 feet of water. What made it special was that it was a Type VII-D mine layer. Only 6 of these were commissioned. I figured that the mines would still be on board and would make for a heck of a find. I mentioned it to several divers trying to drum up interest and funding, but received the usual, "Yeah... cool. We should try getting something going," Or, "Hey, I'm in," but no follow up. So, I get contacted by this 16 year old furture journalist who wants to find the U-376 and probably will do something about it so I'm trying to drum up an expedition and funding... HUGE FREAKING HINT HERE IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO GET OFF YOUR ARSE AND DO SOMETHING COOL... ANYONE? ANYONE? BUELLER? BUELLER? ANYONE? for the Fall. Anyway, so while people were yawning over the U-215 idea, this happened: Read all about it... http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/07/13...a/Uboat_040713 Trace Malinowski PDIC Instructor #2075 Freediving Instructor Trainer |

Interesting. I've heard lots of stories about a supposed sub off of PEI but you're the first to put a name to the myth. > I figured that the > mines would still be on board and would make for a heck of a find. She's got enough to dive in her area that she doesn't need to bother with anything on this side of the pond. Brian Edmonton, Alberta |
