| My county here in Florida is having to cut programs in the schools to make up for funding short-falls that even raising property assessments has not filled. Are any other parts of the US experiencing the same money problems in their education systems? |

Define problems... in my county in Texas, we are also having to rearrange some budget items because of a number of factors, but it means that we are going to be getting rid of some unnecessary programs that are really nothing but tax funded fluff. I think it's a good thing to trim the fat (as in our case). |

Minnesota, most school districts, have had to trim back. Yes some curriculum was completely eliminated, I don't have a site to tell what curriculum but it wasn't anything that affected my children. Perhaps unnecessary expenditures would have been better. For instance, they cut 2 of the 3 "secretaries" that the current superintendent felt he "needed". They were so important that, prior to him taking office, there were exactly 0 people filling that spot. They're also looking into less expensive book options for the coming school year (for the books that need replacing) than they normally would. Also, they've suspended many of the (what I would consider) frivolous sport extras. The athletics programs remain and those involved will receive just as good of a program as before, they just won't do it in a new arena/field/stadium/whatever this year. |

Welcome to Texas. The Lege are looking at a second special session to discuss school finance. Of course, nobody has come up with a solution. Some fools have brought up the "I" word, but that won't fly any time soon. Of course, I said that about toll roads, too. -- dillon When I was a kid, I thought the angel's name was Hark and the horse's name was Bob. |
