Suunto doesn't use RNT like the PADI DSAT tables do. You only need RNT to determine Adjusted Max Bottom time for a given depth. Suunto skips RNT and just shows you the new bottom time through the PLAN mode. But if you'd like to see it you could: Go through the PLAN mode (before diving) and make a list of Suuntons max bottom times for a given depth. For my mosquito set at A0 P0 Air the values are: 30 --- ( some big number ) 40 120 50 69 60 51 70 36 80 28 90 22 100 17 110 13 120 10 130 9 140 7 150 6 So lets say you do a dive and come out of the water. You won't be able to go into plan mode right away until the computer closes out your current dive. ( Reentry within a few minutes is considered the same dive profile.) Once your in you go plan a dive for a given depth. For example 60' it says you can dive for 40 minutes. That means you have an RNT of 11minutes for 60'. Lets say you plan for 50' and it says you can dive for 50 minutes. That means you have a RNT of 19 minutes for 50'. Also if you have the PC inteface kit you can download your dives and see your RNT expressed as tissue compartment %'s. This is a better way to look at it. RNT's are useful in the sense of teaching a diver that he his dive planning must accomodate the fact that he has residual nitrogen in him, but other then calculating adjustet bottom time and total bottom time the RNT is reallly not useful. Since the computer does these calcs for you and just shows time remaining, I wouldn't worry about it. |

That's the difference between Oceanic and Suunto, the Oceanic shows controlling tissue loading while the Suunto just shows the used NDL time. I still prefer the Oceanic display, the Suunto bars are redundant to the digital display. Adam |
