| Greetings, I am trying to transfer dive data from my new Stinger to my PC. The first problem is that the instruction speak of setting up the interface.....but do not say how the watch/computer is supposed to sit in the craddle. The craddle has a 3-pin contact face, but nowhere on the Stinger do I see a similar set of interface. The only thing that looks remotely similar is a one-dimple point that the user manual describes as the water contact sensor. No diagram is provided. Searching online, I found an advertisement with a photo of the watch siting in the craddle and "appears" to be in an orientation using the "water contact sensor" as the contact point. But its difficult to tell. Question 1: Does anyone know how the watch is supposed to sit in the craddle?? The next problem is that my PC doesn't seem to even recognize the craddle is attached to the COM1 serial port....or any port for that matter. The instruction say to attach it to the serial port without the watch in the craddle and then press TEST on the interface window so that the software can direct the computer to search for the craddle. I get the "Your computer did not find the interface on any port" error message no matter which of the 4 serial ports I use. The instructions mention something about needing to short two pins together for the EON style craddle......but don't say what that is. I assume since I don't know what it is, I don't have one. But I tried shorting the pins anyway and still got no positive results. Question 2: Does anyone know how to get the craddle to be recognized by a Win200 PC??? I searched online and found a few USENET posts that speak of trouble with this interface......but unfortunately for me, they were posted in German and Swedish.... I've been working this problem for a while now and have already lost info out of the watch from my dives this weekend that are over 36 hours old. Assitance is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks! |

IIRC put the watch in the cradle and test it. Check with you HW manager which COM port to use. > I've been working this problem for a while now and have already lost > info out of the watch from my dives this weekend that are over 36 > hours old. That should not be the case. D. |

You misunderstood the instruction manual. It holds 36 hours worth of data, the memory is life-time. When your computer has been diving more than 36 hours, it will start overwritting the older dives. /Marcin |

Q1 the dimple is the water sensor but it doubles as the connector. The centre pin connects to the dimple, the other two pins connect to the case Q2 The most common reason for the PC not finding the interface is that something else has control of it. Maybe a Palm or Mobile phone bit of software. See if there are any clues the icons in the bottom right of the screen. HTH Nick |

Son in short the big black thing in the small funny part that you can drag out with a small hook. > so that the software can direct the computer to search for the > craddle. I get the "Your computer did not find the interface on any > port" error message no matter which of the 4 serial ports I use. I have seen several reasons for this and othen get it when using the serial port on the current HP Laptop. In windows try to start the computer with out having the interface connected. (Sometime Windows thinks you have a mouse on the serial interface when starting with the suunto think attached.) Other thinks that sometinmes help, restaert the suunto appication, recome the cabes to the interface, start suunto dive manager (SDM) attach cabels and test again. / Anders -- http://anders.arnholm.nu/ Keep on Balping |

Perhaps then there is something else amiss...... I made 3 dives on one day. Checked the log and they were registered as D1 D2 and D3. I made two more dives the next day. My log now contains a D3 from the previous day and D1 and D2 from the 2nd day. I cannot seem to access D1 and D2 from the previous day. I assumed that this was because more than 36 hours had passed since the first set of dives. From what I read in the instructions, I thought that was an odd way to design the computer. Apparently, that is not the case. Any suggestions as to what may be happening? Thnx again! |

| Hi, Answering my own post.... I went back and tried again. This time I do see data for *ALL* my dives. Not sure why I didn't see it the other times. Seemed to me that I got "end" when I tried to go back from D3 on the first day and then got "end" again after the last dive for the second day (as would be expected). This time, I see D1 thru D3 for the first day. So, no problem there. But I still can't get my computer to recognize the interface craddle. Any new suggestions from anyone on this front? This time, I see D1 thru D3 for the first day. So, no > problem there. It takes a while to get used to the interface, and how to scroll the dives. The reason for the markings (again, see the manual) is that suunto's will restart the dive counter if your no-fly time expires. For instance, on the first day you make one shallow dive. You computer will, say, tell you 17hours no-fly. Next day evening you dive and the time has already expired. The evening dive will be marked as D1 again, and some new no-fly time will kick in. Then you do a night-dive with 13h of no-fly remaining, and the night dive is written as D2. Now you have two dives called D1 and one called D2. When you scroll, pay attention to the date display which tells you which D1 you are looking at. > But I still can't get my computer to recognize the interface craddle. > Any new suggestions from anyone on this front? Chances are it's something to do with your PC, not the Suunto. Did you verify that the COM port itself works? Like connect a modem or something... then, as someone pointed out, do you have some PDA application, or something else listening there? Have you configured the Suunto software properly? Please grab the manual, and retrace your steps to see if you got all of the setup things right. /Marcin |
