Default Storm Update from Boca

10:00 a.m. – starting to get some serious gusts, but not a lot of rain
so far. Power should be going out soon, flickering now. I have battery
on this machine and my laptop is charged, so I will try to get out an
update tomorrow if the phone lines are still up.

Still looks like I will be right at the southern edge of the hurricane
force winds, but the storm is moving so slowly that the winds will go on
for 24+ hours and the rain could be over 15 inches.

I have sufficient rum and orange juice to last until Wednesday or so,
then it’s a crisis.

Unless the storm makes a sharp left turn, I should be OK.

I am listening to updates via amateur radio. For anyone with a
receiver, you can listen at 14.325Mhz. Upper sideband.

I have a serious backup supply of Jack Daniels, Meyers Rum, Tequila and
other assorted liquors.
If you should run low or dry on your supply of rum let me know and we
may be able to arrange an emergency resupply mission.

Mike,
I left a gallon of Absolute, some Tortuga 151, Captain Morgan's and other
assorted products with varing percentages of ethanol at my moms snowbird
(she's in Michigan) place in Boynton. I'm sure they will have allowed
people back by then (they are evacuated); I can have the building captain
let you in.

We started getting some wind and rain, usual Florida weather, but it looks
like things will get interesting by tomorrow morning here. Looks like
you're having things bounced around there a bit; hope there isn't to much
damage.

George

At roughly 11:00 PM on Saturday, September 4, I'm well into my ordeal. I've
lost about a dozen fronds off my coconut palms, but none of the trees
themselves. That's a good thing since the only place for them to go is on
top of our cars and smaller boat. I'm going to need a roofer after this. A
portion of a few of my shingles blew away. The three of four screen panels
I lost will be easy to replace. At last report, by a friend that lives
close to the boat club, my larger boat's doing fine . . . so far. I'm
keeping my fingers crossed that nothing changes. We lost power at 5:00 this
afternoon and, as of now, it's still out. A large tree fell across the
lines into the development, tanking out a fairly large area. Power and
light workers have been working on the problem for several hours. The good
news is that I got to use my new generator.

Like Mike, I've got notebook computers. In fact, I have three, plus a spare
battery. I can stay in touch a long time. Unlike Mike, I've got enough
liquor to keep myself happy for a lot longer than the government's going to
allow me. I do, however, have a potential crisis developing. At her
current consumption rate, I've only got enough beer for Jayna for a couple
days. Hopefully, I'll be able to replenish her supply before she runs
completely out. Our share of the storm was originally scheduled to end
sometime tomorrow morning. That's beginning to be doubtful. The damned
hurricane is hardly moving at all.

Curtis and others in central Florida, you should be taking a pretty good
beating about now. Stay safe and let us know how it's going when you can.

Lee

Lee,

It's been pretty mild here in Orlando. Some gusting winds and rain; only
two inches in my pool since this morning. We are not supposed to get the
worst of it until later this morning sometime, but the way this thing has
stalled, who knows. FWIW, a site that has about every view imaginable can
be found at:

http://www.nontoxic-internet.com/Frances.htm

I find the USN map helpful for projected path and wind speed.

There are reports of power out to 20K in East Orange County and Seminole,
but we're still on here.
