| Schwarzenegger Signs Bill on Gun Limits By TOM CHORNEAU, AP SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Sept. 14) - Enhancing his standing as a moderate within the Republican Party, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed laws outlawing the sale of a high-powered rifle and requiring health insurance policies to offer equal coverage to registered domestic partners. The weapons law, signed Monday, bans the sale of .50-caliber BMG rifles, a move that stands in contrast to the decision of Republican leaders in Congress not to renew a 10-year-old federal ban on assault weapons that expired the same day. Gun control advocates say the measure makes California a national leader in improving public safety. "California has once again confirmed its status as a bellwether state in preventing gun violence," Tom Diaz of the Violence Policy Center in Washington said Tuesday. "Today's action not only protects the police and public, but stops the sale of a confirmed tool of terrorists." Studies by the Violence Policy Center have shown that the rifles can pierce many types of protective armor and are accurate from more than a mile away. The weapon, which can weigh up to 28 pounds, fires a bullet about 6 inches long and is typically used by game hunters and target shooters. Assemblyman Paul Koretz, a Democrat, sought regulation of the weapon after learning of its destructive capability. Opponents of the law said there was no evidence the guns have been used in criminal activity. ==================================== The Terminator has just spent a few million dollars of the tax payer's money (so far) to ban a weapon that has a low end cost of $2500 dollars (for a bolt action) and a high end cost of 14 -Grand-. They're 5 feet long and weight almost 30 pounds. The low end ammo is three bucks a cartridge. The perfect concealability/drive-by weapon for the local gang banger. I'm glad Tom Diaz of the "Violence Policy Center" thinks that Osama bops down to Walmart to get these. (the last sentance in the story is the best) All you Libertarians don't all clamor up at once. These weapons have *never* been used to commit a single criminal act. Diaz is a bald faced liar and moron of galactic proportion. The liberals deserve him. |

Just like so many Hollywierd types. I know of a person who shall go unnamed who blew a wad of money on a Barret and 300 rounds last week. He knew what was coming. He also owns several "illegal" assault weapons. > > > Popeye > "God, God, why did you put so many assholes > in the world at the same time?"
