Key West diver dies
KEY WEST: A Key West sport diver died Monday, during a dive trip in the
waters just south of the island.
The man was diving four miles south of Key West shortly after 3 p.m. aboard
a dive boat that Coast Guard officials declined to name on Monday night. The
diver was unconscious when he surfaced and was taken to the boat, where CPR
was performed on him, Coast Guard officer Matt Mangun said.
The Coast Guard arrived and continued to perform CPR on the diver while
taking him to shore. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the Key West
Coast Guard Station, Mangun said. The diver's name will be released pending
notification of next of kin and an exact cause of death will be released
pending an autopsy.
