Speaking of legislators from Texas, I've heard two somewhat amusing stories on the radio this morning. First of all, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has been considering running for Governor. I'm all for that because I don't figure she can screw things up any worse than Rick Perry has. Anyway, Rick Perry (current governor who is hoping to be re-elected) told her that it would probably be better if she ran for the Texas Senate. Why the hell would she run for Texas Senate when she's already a US Senator? Second, my state representative (Kel Seliger) just got a bill passed to make the chuckwagon the official vehicle of Texas. During the debate over the bill, he was asked by a Hispanic representative if they could have a co-vehicle that would be referred to as the Carloswagon and if they could designate the low-rider as the official state urban vehicle. He dealt with these kinds of questions for quite some time. Then, someone asks if he will entertain one more question and he responded "I've already yielded more than a cheerleader at a drive in movie." Isn't that great. |

That's an optimistic view of the situation. With the state of educational funding in Texas, I think they probably had better things to do though. |

Seems to me they were stopped right in their tracks. Instantly. Efficiently. Public opinion has sent the involved politicians scurrying, except for DeLay, who has bigger worries. > ? Pat Buchanan Doused With Salad Dressing Former Presidential Candidate Appeared at University KALAMAZOO, Mich. (April 1) - Commentator and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan cut short an appearance after an opponent of his conservative views doused him with salad dressing. "Stop the bigotry!" the demonstrator shouted as he hurled the liquid Thursday night during the program at Western Michigan University. The incident came just two days after another noted conservative, William Kristol, was struck by a pie during an appearance at a college in Indiana. After he was hit, Buchanan cut short his question-and-answer session with the audience, saying, "Thank you all for coming, but I'm going to have to get my hair washed." The demonstrator, identified by authorities as a 24-year-old student at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, was arrested and faces a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. He was released on a $100 cash bond, pending his April 14 arraignment. "He could have faced a felony assault charge, but Pat Buchanan decided to not press that charge," university spokesman Matt Kurz said. Buchanan's visit had evoked controversy on campus because it fell on the birthday of the late Mexican-American labor leader Cesar Chavez. Buchanan favors tighter controls on immigration. Kristol, editor of the influential conservative magazine The Weekly Standard and former chief of staff to Vice President Quayle, was splattered by a student during a speech Tuesday at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. Members of the audience at the Quaker college jeered the student, then applauded as Kristol wiped the pie from his face and said, "Just let me finish this point." Kristol then completed his speech and took questions from the audience. The student, who was not immediately identified, was suspended and could face expulsion following a disciplinary review, Earlham Provost Len Clark said Wednesday. Clark also issued a written apology complimenting Kristol for his "graciousness." |

You forgot to scream "THE SKY IS FALLING." 20% of voters, representing hard corps religious right, control the US? Is that why the Cross in San Diego is coming down? Is that why the word God has been banned from public school and curriculum, removed from the Pledge of Allegiance, etc? The problem is these people reject you and your idea of governance wholesale, and that scares you because you have no hope of controlling them or their lives. > ? The "religious" right isn't nearly as powerful or scary as you want it to look, and for another thing, the religious right is a natural reaction to years of liberal attacks and abuse. They find you just as scary, if not more so, than you them. |

You and I and all the other people who rejected the liberal left and their bullshit are just going to stand back and let Jim and Tammy Baker take over the country, eh? Hand over control to the Vatican or the UN? I think they have it all backwards. > Pat Buchanan Doused With Salad Dressing > Former Presidential Candidate Appeared at University <snip> Where is all that tolerance, free speech and freedom the democrats are always screaming about? This is exactly why they get caged and get given the bums rush more often than not. None of us would even know Buchanan was alive if it wasn't for this moonbat assaulting him. I am waiting for the day when someone climbs down off the stage and beats the shit out of one of these little assholes. I don't like Robertson, and I wish he would just shut up and go away, but he has the right to speak without getting assaulted, just like all the democrats do. |
