Maybe an Irish one so that their sacraments can be performed with whiskey instead of wine? A Mexican one so that communiion will change from wine and a wafer to tequilla and a tortilla? A French one so that they'll start using better classes of wines? A Greek one so that .... nawh, we won't go *there*... <snicker> |

I'm with Scott on this one guys. Sorry about dragging you down into my faux intellectual gutter, Scott, and sorry Adam for hitting your particular post, but I've read one too many cheap shots at the man. The Pope doesn't deserve this rec.scuba kneejerk macho nonsense. He was an important person to millions if not billions in the world and it seems to me that rec.scubans can forget for once their record level testosterone count long enough to show a little respect. Even non-catholic Christians and civilized non-christians should be willing to respect the religious leader of a large part of the Christian world. Making jokes about him now is at best chickenshit and at worst something less than chickenshit, whatever that is. If Popeye will bear with me on this, that's all I have to say on the matter. While I agree there's no need for cheap shots (in this particular case), the Pope and the Catholic religion has a lot to answer for. As far as holding my own against how my life was lived, I certainly can, and believe you can, too. As your and John's participation in the mass hysteria wears off, and some more accurate reflections of what the Pope and his church advocated the last 2.5 decades are illuminated, there'll be lots of room for healthy RS discussion. His aloof "moral" position in the Schiavo case was despicable, he'd rather your daughters die than get an abortion, he advocated -world- over-population to propagate his religion regardless of consequence, his very recent decisions on heroic life support was patently hypocritical, won't allow female priests or marriage, but can't separate the men from the boys, and I'm getting a little tired hearing how he single-handedly brought down Communism. Not to mention his starving parishioners world wide as he sits on arguably the largest private fortune in the world. If you guys don't think he's doing some explaining right now, you're daft. |

Wont matter. One of my ex's was a devout Catholic (Sicilian), and in their eyes the Pope can do no wrong, everything he hands down is from God, of God and for God. Kinda like some of the Ayatollahs and Mullahs that preach mass murder. I agree with the wealth thing. They could spend a little bit of the Vaticans money, instead of telling everyone else how to spend theirs (kinda makes him a liberal, doesnt it?). That said, John Paul wasnt all bad. Now, for some lively discussion, lets look at our fellow Americans, fed the fuck up and protecting our border with Mexico: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050404/D89890F00.html The President of Mexico is threatening to sue if any of the wetbacks or dope smugglers his government cant provide work to get hurt. |
