Default Best Dive Logging Software?

I was wondering what the worlds verdict is on Dive logging software.

Thanks for any recommendations in advance.

Dave.

I second the opinion on scubase.net, just make sure you don't go to their
competitor at scubase.ORG by accident. Pretty cheesy marketing tactic in my
opinion. Scubase let's you add all sorts of things including fish seen etc,
really cool and cheap. Try the free trial.

Alex and Olga are great folks, and very active divers as well.

Yeah from the website it looks quite good, I'll download the trial and
give it a whirl.

I'm developing my own application and looking for the pro's and con's of
a few of the products out there to try and come up with something a
bit better. I like the custom field approach in scubabase.

Thanks

I have tried a number of these. There are lots of them around.

The problem with using them is that you still need to take notes when your
out of the water. Your computer can provide some of the details but not all.
If you dont record it immediately you tend to forget. Also if you do a
multi-dive weekend you will almost certainly forget details. You could take
a laptop with you I suppose, but thats just another thing to carry around
and drop in the water.

The next problem is that you need to be able to show your dive logs to a
divemaster for any tech dives. Printing our your dives is one option, but
then your back to paper again.

I found I have a tendency to type too much information about the dive when
using these programs too. Way way more than I would ever put in my dive log
by hand. It would be interesting to re-read all that 15 years later though.

I liked the free software from the Suunto website. It seemed pretty cool.

I use SharkPoint, it like very much. Great product! SharkPoint has also
Palm and PocketPC handhelds version (and different phone versions are
in development), which enables you to log you your dive right after
the dive. So, no hassle with paper.
You are able to enter any information level you like, and leave any
information out you like, but additional information like photo's,
signatures, maps, gps/gis etc. can be added when needed. Just take a
look at http://www.dreamdives.org and download the trail.
