The best shop may not be a PADI shop. |

Also, dont be in a hurry to buy anything more than a mask, snorkel (get the cheapest one they have, 'cause after you learn to dive you wont use it) and a set of Jetfins. Another thing you can try is call around and see where, when and what SCUBA clubs are around, hit a couple meetings. Most are associated with one shop or another, so if you can find a club that is independent, you will get more objective advice. |

One other tidbit of advice - the best mask isn't the one that costs the most or has the best magazine reviews. The best mask is the one that fits you the best |

The best mask is the one that > fits you the best Which might be one from a dive shop or it might be one from Wal-Mart... You just never know... Hell, the one that leaks the least for me these days just happens to be one that I picked up black silicone one at Wal-Mart in New Orlean when I realized that I had forgot to bring my regular mask with me... Of course, it's not prescription lenses like my regular mask, so I don't wear it that much, but surprisingly it is the one that leaks the least... Well, at least these days... Way back when, I had one of the old black rubber 3-pane with stainless steel band around the glass that probably fit me the best of any mask... Or it might just be an Alzheimer's Moment and I am *thinking* that it did... <grin> |
