Exactly!

One of the problems with planning a vacation to Florida very far in
advance is that hurricanes can pop up and ruin your vacation...
Checking the weather and deciding at the last minute works a lot
better, although you must either be willing to pay more for airfare or
be willing to drive... I like the flexibility of driving since I can
take my tanks with me and dive at any spring along the way if the mood
hits me... Plus, I hate having to deal with all the TSA bullshit these
days if I can easily avoid it... It's a 2 day drive from here to SoFL
if I don't stop anywhere along the way to do some diving... According
to StreetAtlas, from your area, you're looking at about 2050 miles or
36 hours of driving... From here, it's 1200 miles and about 21 hours
of driving... If it's just you (i.e. no wife, girlfriend, kids), it's
probably cheaper to fly than drive... If you know that there are no
places along the way where you would want to stop, flying might also
be preferable...

Check out the various FunJet specials / charters that they have
periodically... They sometimes have really good deals... Currently,
they have an air-only special from Denver to Cozumel (non-stop) for
$199 for departure dates 8/25, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 via Frontier
Airlines... I guess this is their "Dive with Dean" special... Although
driving to Cozumel *is* an option and it might be something that
someone would want to do at least once in their life, with air fares
this cheap, I would be hard pressed to do it unless I was going to
spend a few weeks in Cozumel so that the cost of driving down there
was offset by not having to rent a vehicle while down there...

Come to Australia and dive the GBR we don't have hurricanes here. Whatever
diving has got to be better than a swim in a volcano bath. btw diving in old
quarries is stupid and you have to be desperate to do it and it cost heaps
for the crap you get
