| I lightened my load by two lbs and that seemed to do the trick. I could swim up and down without much trouble and use breath control to fine tune myself at the bottom of the pool, all with an empty bc. However, I let the tank get down to 300 lbs and did a check at the surface and with an empty bc I sank ever so slowly, even with a lung full of air. I guess it's whatever you are comfortable with. A diver friend was at the pool, too, and he surmises, as someone else said in the other thread, that the minerals in the crater I dove in made 8 lbs perfect. So, I need to learn that each body of water is going to be different, even if it's labeled "fresh water." He told me one day he went down to the Bahamas and forgot to weight for salt water -- just wasn't thinking. Jumped in and just bobbed around like a cork. -- Sheldon sheldon@sopris.net |

I bobbed around for a few seconds before I figured out what was up with that. Had to put my belt on in the water. I was sure glad that I'd been taking pool refreshers before any of my dive trips. By the way, there aren't too many divers that haven't had that happen to them at least once. |

I actually got down to 35' off Key Largo in a 3/2 suit without my belt. I was struggling to get level and finally realized what was missing. I was glad I discovered it before I'd emptied the al80 on my back. JF |

Well I can certainly try 4 lbs, but I'm not sure it will be easy to stay down with that little weight. Maybe I should try no weights and see what happens, then stick a 3 lb weight in my bc pocket or just take one 3 off the belt. Can't hurt to experiment. Maybe I can just gain 4 lbs. |

IMHO unless you understand the tables you can't understand the principles by which the computer displays what it does. Than again as I have said before I turn the bevel on my dive watch before I descend and carry and use a snorkel > > |

The very same computer that built all the other computers. You just have to learn how to use it. |
