| I am getting tired (literally) of my current fins and think that split fins might be a better alternative. Browsing through the online stores though I have a small problem with finding the right size of open heel fins. My regular shoe size is 9.5, I usually dive with drysuit boots size 9. The fins I have looked at come in Medium (7-9) or Large (9-11). So which ones should I pick? Does it matter? |

My shoe size is 8-1/2 and I use an X-large Scuba Pro twin jet fin. |

First of all, split fins are a lame marketing gimmick perpetrated by companies wishing to market to divers with poor fitness or no idea of finning technique. If you want it to be easier to kick, you could also swim barefoot.. Real technology advantages exist with freedive fins, where very low exertion occurs along with much higher speed through the water...of course, the penalty is a small requirement for a little coordination in walking on the dive boat...considering how many "never-evers" are involved in diving, thanks to PADI giving a C-card to anyone who can afford one, there are many people you see on dive boats who have trouble walking with tiny fins, so for these people , freedive fins would be next to impossible to walk in. Try out Mares Volos if you are looking for a fin that won't tire you so much. But do not get split fins!! |

Step 2.) Don't just fall for the marketing hype. Try out different styles of fins as well. Step 3.) make the best decision for you based on what you find. |

Had to return the Apollo Biofins for that reason. I tried a friend's Atomic split fins they worked well. But I'm happy with my Force Fins Pro, as they are very comfortable and small in size for travel. In any case it's important that you can try the fins and be able to return them or exchange them if they don't suit you. Adam |
