Default OT -- For the fathers of teenage girls everywhere

I heard this on the radio the other day... Definitely a song for fathers
of teenage girls everywhere... Even worth loading Flash on your machine
for the few minutees that it takes to hear the song...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeA5RKysQP4

Rodney Akins -- Cleaning My Gun (Come on in Boy)

Other than the part at around 02:39 where he says, "Now it's all for show,
ain't nobody's gonna get hurt", I have to agree with it...

Nearly as good as the line, "I've got a .45 and shovel and I don't think
anyone is gonna miss you"...

I kind of like Jeff Foxworthy's line "I have no problem going back to
prison."

This reminds me of when I had a stepdaughter. Actually, I had two, but one
of them was over 21 and living on her own. The rule was, she could make her
own decisions who she would date, but she had to bring them home and
introduce them to her mother and me first.

I'll never forget when she asked if she really had to and was told yes. She
asked why and I told her that we needed to be comfortable with who she was
with and that we believed that she was smart enough not to bring somebody
we'd object to home to meet us. That's when she told me that her date was a
skinhead and asked me not to embarrass her. I told her that I'd never
intentionally do that to her. I hope I never did.

She told her date that he had to meet us. Here's kind of how the discussion
went.
Him: Is your dad a redneck?
Her: Sort of.
Him Does he drive a truck?
Her: Yes
Him: Is it a four wheel drive with big tires?
Her: Yes
Him: Does it have a shotgun rack in the window?
Her: Yes
I can just imagine the fear this put in the kid, but I'll give him this, he
came to meet us. When he knocked on the door, he had on a jacket and tie, he
looked me in the eye, introduced himself and shook my hand like a man. It
was a real effort not to laugh at the shirt, jacket and tie that didn't even
come close to matching or the fact that he was obviously a bit scared, but I
managed. When they were ready to leave, he turned to me and said that he'd
have my stepdaughter back by 11 (which was our rule at the time). I don't
know if it was my red neck, guns, truck or what that influenced that kid
that night, but whatever it was, my wife (previous wife) and I didn't worry
a lick. The kid brought my stepdaughter back before 11, as he had promised.

She only had the one date with him, but I'll tell you what, skinhead or not,
he would have been welcome to come back again. Respect me and mine and
you'll get respect in return. Disrespect us and you're probably not going to
be real unhappy, real quick.

Lee

I mostly lurk here and rarely post....but, as the daughter of a similar-type
father, I have several stories like that as well! I resented the
"interference in my life" at teh time, but 20 --ummm 30, years later, I
appreciate it.

My daddy particularly liked to tell 2 stories. I, also, had to bring the boy
in for the parents to meet and talk. This was known with the boys I dated
and dreaded. Daddy was always respectful but firm. One boy was scared to
come to the house for that reason, but did anyway. The meeting went well. We
went out, btu the boy asked me to find out what my daddy thought. The boy
called after he brought me home and after I'd asked daddy what he thought.
Looking back and reportedly, daddy really did not give the boy a second
thought, but just to have something to say to me, daddy told me he did not
like the boy's mustache (this was the 70s). Next day, the boy shaved that
mustache off!!

Then there was the time I heard a senior boy say that they would like to
date me (I was a sophomore), but they would not because of my daddy. Of
course, I went home from school mad and upset with daddy, pitched a teenage
girl fit due to my daddy "ruining" my love life. Daddy loved it..he
accomplished what he intended to do! Years later, I saw how I just played
right into his plan.

Interesting that after 7 hours, this post hasn't shown up on Google
Groups, but Lee's reply to it has... Something weird happening on USENET
today? OK, maybe I should say, "weirder than normal"...
