| Totally off topic, so if you don't like it off topic (especially firearm related) posts, don't read it... OK, you've been warned... http://i32.tinypic.com/30w9r7n.jpg Local guy asking $380 for it... Taurus 100SSGR-11... .40SW... Looks very similar to my Beretta 96FS, but a bit fancier... I didn't take the photo, so don't blame me for the fact that it is slightly blurry... -- See NNTP header field "X-Real-Email-Address" to reply by email. |

New price is $438 plus shipping and FFL transfer. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/31826 Or do you allow private F to F sales in your state? -- “TANSTAAFL” __________________________________________________ __________________________ America: Ironically, the safest place to be anti-American. __________________________________________________ __________________________ "A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences." - Proverbs 22:3 |

I have a Taurus revolver that I like. As for the price, it's probably a good price, and the gun looks nice, but for a few bucks more you could get a new Beretta or something else. My understanding is that Taurus's copy of the 92FS may be a real Beretta, as Beretta used to make the gun in the same plant and sold the plant to Taurus. |

Plus at least $20 for the FFL transfer fee... Plus shipping of at least $20 since you are not *supposed* to to normal ground shipping... Brings a total of $514 vs $380... Hmmm... Makes the $380 sound good... > Or do you allow private F to F sales in your state? This is Texas... Face to face sales are allowed along with pretty much anything else... Of course, I'll run the serial number of the gun just in case... I prefer this sort of transaction if at all possible since there is no federal record of it... It's not paranoia when it's true... -- See NNTP header field "X-Real-Email-Address" to reply by email. |

I've already got the Beretta 96FS which is very similar except that it doesn't have the rosewood grips and is a satin finish instead of a polished finish... Plus, it is a 10+1 configuration whereas the Taurus is a 11+1 configuration... Comes with 2 mags, just like the Beretta though... > My understanding is that Taurus's copy of the 92FS may be a real > Beretta, as Beretta used to make the gun in the same plant and sold > the plant to Taurus. Probably pretty close... I believe that the Taurus also come with a keyed built-in locking mechanism... My other Taurus semi-autos have them, although I never use them... -- See NNTP header field "X-Real-Email-Address" to reply by email. |

My impression. Its a Beretta wannabe. |

It looks good and, in the last few years, Taurus seems to have produced some good weapons and provided good service, suggesting that there is at least a chance that the gun is a good buy. On the other hand, as I understand it, it is a second hand gun for a price not much different from what you could get a new one for. Tough call. Since the guy is local, you have a chance to inspect the gun and, possibly to test fire it for accuracy and function. I think I'd run a couple magazine full of factory ammunition through it before making a decision, one to test for accuracy, another, fired as rapidly as possible, to test for function. Lee |
