I've fought in just as many wars as you have. I just came from
visiting the memorial and museum on Peleliu.

A trip to Palau not only provides more world experience than you get
out of your trailer microcosm even with satellite big-screen TV, but I
also got one-on-one photo lessons with one of Jim Church's proteges
and learned a bit more than I knew before about war from my Peleliu
tour. I even know that a "stinger-less" jellyfish can sting your
tongue if you stick it in your mouth. You definitely can't learn that
on Discover Channel.

But that's not what makes me better and smarter than you. Higher IQ,
education, common sense, common decency, and good looks is what makes
me better and smarter than you.

(of course the common sense went out the window in the name of
education with the jellyfish incident, but wasn't it "wise" Ben
Franklin who flew a kite in a lightning storm?)

"Less-partisan analysts suggest a Democratic pickup of 10 to 20 seats.
The current House breakdown: Democrats 233 seats, Republicans 198,
four vacant.

"Foster's win in Hastert's old district "sent a political shock wave
across the country," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., chairman of
the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Republicans called it
an isolated contest, but Van Hollen said, "The ingredients that helped
Foster are elsewhere," in competitive races throughout the nation.

"They include "a great discontent with the Bush administration's
economic policies and the war in Iraq, and the connection between the
two," Van Hollen said. He said Democrats will tie all Republican
candidates to President Bush, and will argue that GOP presidential
candidate John McCain solidly backs Bush policies on the war and
economy."

Thank you, Joe. It's OK. Scott can't take very good pictures either
and he's obviously jealous of those who can and who have the
opportunity to do so. I have over 50 up so far: my dolphin shots,
some land views of the hotel, and the initial sets of macro. I'm
still working on some wide angle stuff and more macro, as well as land
shots of Peleliu, plus Jellyfish Lake, so there are many more to
come. If you look at them now, please check back in a couple days for
the rest.

Some of the pictures are mediocre, if that's the best shot I was able
to get of a certain species. Half of my purpose in shooting
underwater photography is to enhance my fish ID skills and there are
quite a few fish to ID in that part of the world. Again, Scott is
incapable of learning anything new, so he is jealous of those who can
learn to do more than what you can train a monkey to do. I challenge
any monkey to put their fish ID skills up against mine.

Hopefully the other half contains some better-than-mediocre shots. I
had some decent feedback from a couple pro photographers aboard the
boat. Obviously I have a ways to go, but Scott's jealous comments
only mean I'm doing something right and motivate me to keep at it.
When Scott's little head spins around and actually flies off his neck,
then I'll know it's time to submit some for publication consideration.

Here ya go, Joe: http://picasaweb.google.com/Mossman.Photos

(hint, click on the album entitled "Palau)

(and don't tell Scott where you found them - he doesn't deserve to
see)

That was rather politically incorrect / culturally insensitive of him...
As a Jew, you should take offense at what he did with your ancestors... I
seriously doubt that he even asked the person of Judaic persuasion whether
or not he even *wanted* to fly, much less in a lightning storm...

Grace's fish ID skills are basically, "etable", "non-etable"...

Thanks for posting these, Greg. Makes my mouth water. I won't get to
Palau till November 2010, but this is a lot to look forward to.

I spend my time underwater going back and forth between shooting for
ID purposes and shooting for effect. In the Atlantic, I know most of
what I see, so I shoot mostly for effect, sometimes to good effect. In
the Pacific, where there are so many new species, I'll just be using
up a lot of bytes to try to do both.

I commend you on getting as many good profile and head-on shots as you
did. One of these days I'll put up an album of fish tails, if I
haven't already deleted them all. Many people don't understand how
much patience and good buoyancy skills it takes to get a fish not to
run away as soon as you point your camera at him. Probably why I shoot
so many sponges and corals -- they're not as fast.

I look forward to seeing the rest, especially Jellyfish Lake. So far,
I think this one is my favorite: http://picasaweb.google.com/Mossman....55442009838402.

Welcome back, by the way.
