Myths About Gun Control
By John Stossel

Most states now have "right to carry" laws. And their people are
not living in a state of terror. Not one of those states reported
an upsurge in crime.

FBI UCR Minnesota Violent Crime - Minneapolis & St. Paul
Jan-Jun comparisons

2004 Violent Crime - 3149
2005 Violent Crime - 4008

2004 Murders - 29

Report: Serious Crimes In Twin Cities Increase
Dec 31, 2005 1:32 pm US/Central

(AP) Minneapolis The number of serious crimes in Minnesota's two
largest cities rose in 2005, according to newly released statistics.

The increase was due largely to robberies and aggravated assaults in
Minneapolis and auto thefts and commercial burglaries in St. Paul,
preliminary statistics released last week showed.

Serious crimes include the violent crimes of homicide, rape, robbery
and aggravated assault. They also include property crimes such as
burglary, theft and arson.

In Minneapolis, aggravated assaults jumped 23 percent and robberies, 22
percent, while homicides fell to 49 in 2005 from 55 in 2004.

instead.

"Minnesota was ranked in the report, America's Health Rankings 2005, as the
healthiest state in the nation, followed by Vermont, New Hampshire, Utah,
and Hawaii."

"Violent crime also decreased by 24% over this 15-year period, from 609
offenses per 100,000 population to 466 offenses per 100,000. There was a 6%
decrease from 2004 to 2005 alone, with the violent crime rate dropping from
495 offenses per 100,000 population to 466 offenses per 100,000."
