| A recent observation of the open water training dives of a new group of divers found the group completed the required exercises and dives in two session of about 2˝ hours each. That seemed fast. How many of you kept and have your log of your first open water training dives? How long did your training take? A quick check of my dive log revealed the details of 5 training dives completed in a 2˝ day time span. The depth, time, and air consumed in the training dives are as follows: 19', 8 Min., 3,000 Lb; 40', 46 Min., 2,031 Lb.; 58', 43 Min., 2,335 Lb.; 99', 30 Min., 2,500 Lb.; and 46', 52 Min., 2,060 Lb. Demonstrating one use of a maintained dive log. |

| Thus spake "longshot" <longshot@aol.com> : >mine was 2 weekends first weekend was about 2-3 hrs of class & 2 hours in >the pool both days. next weekend was (2) 30 minute dives each day along >with about an hour of discussion > Not long enough. Should have been about 5 hours of class room each day (I assume that those who watched the video absorbed about as much as any other TV show). Two to three hours in and around the pool each day and 2 30ish minute OW dives each day. Two weekends is about right for a PADI course, but you should have at least worked at it. -- dillon How much power does it take to run a server farm? A googlewatt. |

Using the term "use" rather loosley. |

Five days with 2 hours of class and one hour (approx) in the pool per day. Then two consecutive days of two 45 minute check dives each day. That got us the handshake and the celebratory beer (Oh, and the card). Then we were encouraged, although not required, to join the instructor for a day of supervised open water at Tobermory which is a significant shock after the comfort of a shallow quarry. JF |
