Default White Star Quarry Trip Report

Made four dives at White Star Quarry in Gibsonburg, OH on Sunday and Monday.
I went with a party from Captain Nemo's Dive Shop in Dover, OH.

I left Saturday night to stay over and took the Turnpike. Took me just over
three hours to get to Fremont and I stayed at the Holiday Inn. Very nice
comfortable place. Plenty of restaurants around and a Walmart.

Headed to White Star Quarry on Sunday and hooked up with my party. Made two
dives on Sunday - each about 45 feet. From what I heard, the visibility was
good for the Quarry at about 15 to 20 feet. Saw the crusher, phone booth
(made me laugh so out of place), and lawn mower. Next dive was about the
same. Water temp was warm to about 15 to 20 feet than got cold to about 64.
Sunday, made two more dives and videod the first one. Just not as much to
video as in the ocean reefs as I would only come up on things here and
there, training platforms, crayfish, schools of fish, a stop sign, limestone
blocks, and some big slanted roof concrete house structure. I may or may
not put the video on Video Google. If I do, it is going to be a real short
couple minute video.

However, it was good to get back in the water and dive, though. And it was
very good to take time out and spend time with good friends and meet new
people. If you are like me, living in Ohio and not by the ocean, and you
have to take what you can get, I recommend the White Star Quarry.

don't know how far Kankakee IL is from you but Haigh Quarry is excellent
diving that gets a couple hundred divers one weekend/ holidays each day.

Much more to see at Gilboa. Several boats, school bus, airplane. The fish
life is also more active at Gilboa. They do not allow fishing at Gilboa.
They do allow fishing at Whitestar, and people are allowed to fish anywhere
in the quarry, even where divers are present.

A good thing to do at Whitestar is to make it out to the Ruffles delivery
truck from the beach underwater. Very good practice following a compass
heading.

Haigh quarry is too cold most of the time. Not much to see there either.
