Default Gear Envy

Finally finished up my check dives in Brockville on the weekend and
learned first hand from my instructor why not to dive with a bad sinus cold.
After he ruptured his sinus the diving went down hill from there, we were
able to finish our open water checks though. I'd be more than happy to
recommend a great group in Brockville if anyone is heading that way. I was
hoping to make it to Gilboa yet this fall but I'll have to wait and see how
things go and whether or not I can steel my dive partner away from his wife.

I have to say that shore diving in Brockville was better than expected,
though I didn't get the chance to see much "stuff" while diving I got to see
a ton of great gear including Inspiration Rebreather demo's. I guess they do
the demo's once a year and I just happen to be in the demo field. I can now
see how, like my ski equipment, one could always find another "toy" to
purchase. I saw home made and pro. set-ups that made me drool. I guess it
just leaves something to aspire too.

I don't know why but the shore dive spots in Brockville and Prescott
Ontario have been jammed with people. In Prescott, on a Wednesday
evening, you will sometimes get 100 people showing up. Nice thing
about the dive sites are they are free, and, the viz is great. At
Prescott there are so many divers that a chip wagon from Ottawa has
moved in across the street from the dive site and is rapidly turning
American divers onto the joys of an order of artery clogging poutine.

The flood of divers from the US and Canada is a direct result of the
camaraderie and great relations built by rec.scubans on rec.scuba. You'll
recall from reading the "daily dribble" that frothing of the mouth is down
and accolades of admiration for Canadian life are way up. Would you expect
any less than a congregation around you?

Our Dive Instructor actully wanted to be at the dive site by 7:30am, I just
thought he was an early bird but later found out that parking was a little
tough. My inlaws live close by so it wouldn't have been an issue for me to
jsut get my gear and me dropped off and then picked back up when we were
finished. I noticed a lot of the shore divers were actually from Quebec.
Maybe Brockville needs to install a "ski lift" to bring everone out to the
good wrecks just off shore.

The guys from one of the shops in Brockville tell me that there are
some ridiculous restrictions on diving in Quebec province, and the
water is cold.

Things like the SPG must be in metric with French writing on it?

Your SMB must include a white flag? Oh, wait a minute, that's the French
SMBs... Does Quebec require that also?

Even my mother doesn't lie about me being good looking.
