I'm looking for the best price. A better try would have been...bob meet froogle, froogle meet bob... http://froogle.google.de/froogle?q=s...Search+Froogle etc. That found me one shop allegedly offering the D9 with transmitter for $949 (http://www.jomashop.com/suunto-d9trans.html) but I don't know (a) if that's for real (b) if it's with strange US taxes and/or rebate vouchers (c) if there may be somewhere cheaper not on froogle. Thanks for the nextag link, that was a new one on me. But unfortunately it only found two suppliers, both about $300 over Jomashop. So I try usenet. David |

There's more than price involved. Check their feedback on resellerratings.com http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Jomashop before you decide whether to trust them with your money. -- Ron (user ron in domain spamblocked.com) |

I can live with those ratings I think; but it seems their price was without NY sales tax, so the comparison is not valid. |

As usual? Not hardly. At least, not any more. Most of the stuff I look at these days is slightly less than I would pay for the item if I bought it retail. In most cases, I can easily find a better deal using pricegrabber or nextag. IIRC, Suunto is one of those companies that practices price fixing. As I recall, they won't allow authorized dealers to sell their items for less than 90% of the MSRP. I could be wrong on that, so don't quote me, but I believe we had a discussion about that a year or two ago. |

Usually I've found the eBay best price pretty close to the best mail order price, assuming you have enough offers for both. If there are only a small number of suppliers it's more difficult on both. Also the price agencies are only really good on particular items; typically computer hardware or common consumer products. Where there is a good choice, it's often true the best eBay price is a few percent higher, but it'll generally still give you a ball park idea of how much you could negotiate down. > IIRC, Suunto is one of those companies that practices price fixing. The RRP is EUR1499 - best price I've found so far is EUR950, both including german sales tax (19%) and transmitter. That's a major mail-order dealer, though it wasn't his advertised price, rather a personal offer by email. A lot of mail order and retail stores have them listed at EUR1099 or EUR1199. Looks like it wouldn't be worth picking one up in the US for me. On eBay there are people selling them in Malta and Indonesia at better prices...that's a bit risky for me though. David |
