I've dived in most locations in the Caribbean except for the D.R.

Its too bad that you didn't say "Dominica" which is another country in
the Caribbean that has better diving. I hear that people who want to
dive in the D.R. go elsewhere --word has it that they've killed off
everything...

But don't rush off to Domenica if you haven't first dived Little Cayman,
Belize or even Bon Aire which has diving far superior.

Puerto Plata is a good vacation location. There are operators out of the
resorts that will take you to not so great spots just off shore. There are
also trips to Sosúa where they'll load your gear at the resort and transport
you in bus. There was better diving in this location. One site out from
the airport was pretty good. I haven't dived there in some number of years
opting to spend time visiting instead of diving. I'd like to try the Parque
Nacional Monte Cristi west of Puerto Plata. That's about the only part of
the Dominican Republic that I haven't been to.
