| We were there in October 2002 and had a great time on the Skydancer - nice boat - good crew - GREAT diving. We spent a few days before the trip in the jungle. We have a trip report posted on our Web Page: http://home.tiac.net/~rbhayes/Galapagos.html Pics are on Sony ImageStation: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291041969 Every dive we did kept getting better and better! Onlything we didn't see was a whale shark, but that gave us a reason to go back - Sep 2005! If you have any specific questions we would be glad to answer them for you. | Hi Peter, regarding Galapagos I would recommend to take a look at www.sharkproject.com , a website in german language but I think also available in english. There is no more paradise. They catch out each shark they can get! There is an online petition against this procedure at http://www.wildaid.org/programs/epet_signup.php Best regards, Fritz "peter kemp" <pekemp@wanadoo.nl> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:4058b8b1$0$24437$18b6e80@news.wanadoo.nl... > Anybody been to the Galapagos islands with Peter Hughes'Skydancer? > please let me know yuor trip experiences > > > |

According to the Dancer crew they had been gone (or maybe gone deep) for at least a month by then. I have been to Galapagos a few times and I think the best time to go is February/March. There won't be any whale sharks, but all the fish populations seem to be in greater abundance close to the islands. The best shark schools I have seen were during those months and the water is very settled, visibility is much greater and the currents up at Darwin and Wolf a bit less severe. Overall, from my outlook, the diving is simply better early in the year rather than later. Yes, the water is quite a bit colder, but I think that may result better animal action. I know Fall (at least our Fall) is always suggested for Galapagos because the water is warm and the Whale Sharks are usually around, but overall I like February/March much better...despite the chilling water. For my return trips I will book for early year rather than late. I have just had far better animals and water at that time, during my trips to the islands. Of course, YMMV. |
