| Hi, We are planning a liveaboard at the beginning of october 2004 to the Deep South / St. Johns Reefs. We have been diving in Egypt several times, how does the St. Johns compare to for example the Brothers and the North Route ? Any advice on good liveaboards is also more than welcome ! Thank you from a rainy Holland...... Alrik |

| Hi Alrik and List, I have been diving at the Brothers in April 2002 and St. Johns in September 2003. My favourite: the Brothers. No cruising between the dives necessary. Far more sharks. Huge manta, hunting dolphins at little brother, the two beautiful wrecks at big brother. We were lucky - 3 days no other boats there... St. Johns was a little bit disappointing. We expected lots of hammerheads but saw only a few whitetips... maybe watertemp was too high for the sharks, we had 32°C at 30 m! BUT a friend of mine did St. Johns in July, and they had hammerheads at each dive, and he prefers this destination... We started to St. Johns from Marsa Alam, and there was a lot of cruising because of the long distance - if you are planning also a 6 day - liveaboard try to find one which starts south of marsa alam (I forgot the name of the harbour...). AND if you want to avoid this long busride from hurghada (4 hrs. minimum) try to take a flight to Marsa Alam... You can see my pics from both trips at www.scubapix.info, also trip reports but in german language only (the site is not finished but the pics and tripreports are working). Hope that helps, if you need more info let me know!
