| I was in Marsa Alam in May 2003. Having researched the area thoroughly I concluded that the best way to see the southern red sea was by spending time on a live aboard. I sailed on the MV Excel for 7 days( www.scuba.co.uk ) and can't enthuse enough about how good the trip was. The boat sails from Marsa Alam to the Brothers, Daedelus, Elphinestone, Rocky and St Johns, which are regarded as the best dives sites in the Red Sea. I have to agree, the diving was spectacular, the boat 5* and the guides, Sonia and Grant, brilliant. On our last day we dived a few sites that would be within day boat reach of Marsa Alam and found them to be pristine and profuse with marine life. There were large pods of dolphins, large shoals of hammerheads, and abundance of reef sharks ( grey, white tips, black tips ) Oceanic white tips, threshers and even a dugong during our visit awesome and, having dived all over the world, I have to say were some of the best I've ever seen There's bugger all in Marsa Alam, as it's still a virgin and slow developing resort. That said, the hotels in Marsa Alam are of a good standard, but there's not much to do if ur gonna be shore based. I hope this helps . please, please, please take a liveaboard. I guaratee u'll have a trip of a lifetime if u do. Submersible Sid |

| I've been closer to El Quseir - in Akassia Hotel - very nice. (www.akassia.com) Excellent house reef! All dives are shore dives, and all are great. F.
