Default Sharm schools-Novice divers family holiday

Hi

Having experienced the joy of scuba on honeymoon in the Carribean, my
wife and I are looking to Sharm for an Easter holiday. Aside from our
10 minute PADI introduction followed by an open water assisted dive,
we're complete novices. What are our options for more scuba in say
Sharm- would we be better advised to undertake PADI certification
whilst we're there (typically how long does this take?), or pay for
assisted dives as & when we choose? Are there dive schools that run the
latter option?

We also have an 8 year old girl- has anyone any experience of
a) Facilities for the entertainment/supervison of children at this or
any other resort?
b) What is the minimum age that dive schools will accept children for
scuba training?

Many thanks for any advice or recommendations.

David

If you can, Enroll in a course BEFORE you go. Holidays costs
$1000s per day and you don't want to waste it in a classroom or pool.
If you happen to live in the frozen north, you can at least get the pool
and book part out of the way and then you just have to take your check
out dives on your trip. (These are called REFERAL classes because
your local shop will hook you up with a local dive instructor for the
dive part) Another option....take your book and pool at home and run
down to FL for a weekend and get it ALL done before you leave.

Typical PADI or SSI class consists of about 15 hours in a classroom, 7
in a pool and 4 dives (usually done over 2 1/2 days) The shop I
frequent does the class in 2 weekends. 1st weekend AM class PM pool
both days. 2nd weekend AM class PM dive boat both days. But there are
places that wipe it ALL out in 3 or 4 days straight. You can also go
100% private and just get an instructor to come to your home and teach
you and then go to a public indoor pool for the pool part.

Sharm is a high-end resort destination. Depending on where you are
staying- they will more than likely have evrything from child
containment services to shild entertainment services. Get the diff?

SCUBA? I would recommend Camel Scuba (co-located right in the central
walking district with Camel Bar as well as the Hotel) and equally The
Red Sea College of Diving (a few blocks closer to the casino and
shorline)

The single major greatest attraction is the wreck of the Thistlegorm,
at least it was for me.
