Default Re: Medical Certificate for Egypt

As a side note, these rules only govern the southern red sea (El Gouna
and south), and Sharm etc comes under a different "governor".

Default Medical Certificate for Egypt

Hello about a week ago there was a posting on a newsgourp (i think it was
this one) about needing a medicial certificate for diving in Egypt now.
Does anyone know if the BSAC self certificate is suitable or if you can buy
these certificates in Egypt or you need to get them done in the UK.
Currently I dive on the self certificate for BSAC, my colleague who has a
certificate which is older than 1 year due to the doctor saying ocme back in
three years would also need to get one if this is the case.

Thanks,

Justin.

This is clearly new and somewhat confusing.

I have just booked some diving with Emperor Divers in Sharm, and
specifically mentioned the changes and asked for the form/format.

The reply said that the rule didnt apply there yet, but if we were
concerned, a letter from a GP confirming that I am fit to dive would
suffice.

They may be wrong, or may not be aware of the changes, or something -
but if no-one can find the prescribed forms, or identify the specific
requirements, then something is wrong, (it is Egypt, so the latter is
possible <g>).

Im getting confused too! I'm diving in Sharm with Explorers in March and
Explorers say the self-certification is enough for any quaified diver. Full
medical only necessary for newbies doing courses ..."Justin Champion"

Anyone just come back from Egypt and know the current situation regarding
the above?

I am off to dive around Hurghada in April and am wondering what the latest
news is from the coal/coral face for medicals required!

Surely someone has some information!

So, if you are on a live-aboard, you need 50 logged dives, insurance and
a medical cert.
But, if you are on a shore based holiday, with a 3 or 5 day package, you
don't need any of those, and the onus is on the operator of the boat to
ensure there are enough guides based on the experience level of the
passengers.
