Default Dive sites in Sharm el Sheikh for Google Earth

Hi there

I have made a list for Google Earth with the dive sites in Sharm el
Sheikh, Egypt.

You can download the file here:
http://www.xray-mag.com/GoogleEarth/RedSea.kmz

I'll continue to update the list.

What is a kmz file? And why should I trust it on my system?

Nice work! Pity there is no good map of Sharm anywhere though, but given the
rate of new buildings there you'd need a new edition every month!

Thanks :)

Yep that is very true, last year when i was working in Sharm el Sheikh,
the new hotel were shooting up like rockets. I hope they figure out a
way to protect the reef from all the tourist, who just step on everything:(

That's a rather naive statement... Anti-virus software only protects you
from KNOWN viruses... How do they become "known"? Well, *someone* has to
get infected first... Hell, you probably even have Flash and Java enabled on
your machine...

A KMZ file is a compressed KML file that allows overlays in Google
Earth and which don't require a server to support the images required
by the overlay since they are contained in the kmz. KML's are a markup
language designed to allow dynamic overlays on the Google Earth model.

If you don't have the Google Earth program or know what it is you have
no need for a kmz file and no need to get this file.

First of all trust me i know how not to get viruses, the last i had was
a boot sector virus on my Amiga in 1988 or 1989 i think :)

There is no need to disable Java, Java runs in a so called sandbox,
where there is a VERY VERY little chance of the virus ever to get out
from. A Java applet, does not have access to your file system or
anything like that, without it being signed and if you accept that, yes
then you could have problems. There has been a very few bugs in the
older versions of Java, but to my knowledge never any nasty viruses
comming from Java.

What you really should not allow is ActiveX because it has access to
your filesystem more like it. Best way to prohibit ActiveX is to use
Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, because most web viruses comes
through Internet Explorer.

But since you are scared of viruses, why do you use the internet at all
? You should disconnect at once, remove CD, DVD, Floppy drive, disable
every port in your system. Then you could have a pretty safe (and
boring) system.

p.s. As written in another posting i just uploaded the XML version of
the file as well. But even XML is not 100% virus safe :)

I went two years in a row in Feb but didn't go this year. I am booked to go
next month though. It's amazing the difference from one year to the next,
and a friend who has just returned this week tells me that it's all solid
beachfront hotel property from Naama Bay to Tiran! Did I hear you say
elsewhere that you used to work for Ocean College?
